• Can AODD pumps operate using natural gas as a power source?

  Some air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pump designs can operate using natural gas, but they typically require a specific setup and additional certifications. This is necessary because during operation, exhaust from natural gas must be collected or vented to an environment capable of safely handling it to prevent buildup.

  Pumps often need CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certification to ensure safety when powered by natural gas. Specifically, Wilden GPS Series Pumps are CSA certified and optimized for remote natural-gas-powered diaphragm pump applications, such as those found in oilfields or off-grid locations.

• Are all Wilden AODD pumps CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified for natural gas operation?

  Not all Wilden AODD pumps are CSA certified. Only Wilden GPS Series Pumps are CSA certified and meet safety codes for use in combustible-gas environments.

• Can I use sour natural gas with Wilden GPS Series AODD Pumps?

  Natural gas must be sweet to power Wilden GPS Series Pumps. The high level of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in sour natural gas is corrosive to the pump and should not be used to power a GPS Series. Seal materials used in the GPS Series are carefully selected for chemical compatibility with hydrocarbons and natural gas vapors.

• Can a standard AODD pump be converted to run on natural gas?

  You cannot convert a standard air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pump to a natural gas pump. Standard pumps do not hold CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certification, unlike Wilden GPS Series Pumps, which ensure safety when using natural gas as a power source. 

• Will sweet natural gas damage seals in GPS-rated AODD pumps?

  The seals used on Wilden GPS Series Pumps are chemically compatible with sweet natural gas and will not be damaged by the use of sweet natural gas.
