• What’s the difference between ATEX and UL-rated AODD pumps?

  ATEX and UL ratings are similar but are not the same certification for air-operated double-diaphragm pumps.

  Both ATEX and UL ratings focus on ensuring safe operation in explosive environments. However, ATEX is a European Union directive focused on preventing ignition of flammable substances, while the UL certification is a North American standard focused on testing and listing equipment safe for use in explosive environments.

  Wilden UL-certified AODD pumps are certified to UL 79, ensuring they are safe for fuel transfer applications.

• Which pump materials are UL-approved in Wilden AODD pumps?

  Wilden offers UL-certified air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps exclusively with the Pro-Flo® SHIFT Air Distribution System (ADS). These pumps feature an aluminum main body, with the option of aluminum or stainless steel for the wetted path and outer piston. Additionally, Buna or PTFE can be selected for the diaphragms, balls and O-rings.

• What UL standard are Wilden AODD pumps certified to?

  Wilden UL-certified AODD pumps are certified to UL 79 standards for fuel transfer applications. UL 79-certified pumps meet the flammable and combustible liquids, National Electrical, Automotive and Marine Service Station codes for electrically, hydraulically or pneumatically driven power-operated pumps.

• Why are Wilden UL-certified pumps de-rated to a lower pressure?

  Wilden UL-certified AODD pumps have a de-rated maximum discharge pressure of 50 psi. This is needed to ensure the pumps meet the requirements for the UL 79 certification.

• When is a UL-rated AODD pump required for fuel or flammable liquid transfer?

  AODD pumps with UL certification are commonly used in truck loading racks, gas stations and aviation fueling systems where flammable liquids are transferred.
