When customers think of Wilden, they think of uncompromising quality – delivering the confidence to rely on our simple, efficient and reliable air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumping technology in even the most demanding applications.
While every pumping application presents unique challenges, those in potentially explosive atmospheres – such as chemical plants, petrochemical facilities, pharmaceutical industries, refineries and mining operations – require AODD pumping technology with an extra layer of protection.
To give operators peace of mind in these hazardous environments, Wilden offers a wide range of groundable, ATEX-compliant AODD pumps that combine proven performance with essential safety certifications.
What is ATEX?
ATEX is an abbreviation of the French "Atmosphères Explosibles" (“explosive atmospheres” in English).
Two European Union directives define ATEX requirements:
For AODD pumps, ATEX compliance means they have been designed and tested to operate safely in hazardous zones containing flammable gases, vapors, mists, or combustible dust, minimizing ignition risks while meeting strict safety regulations.
Why are ATEX-compliant AODD pumps important?
ATEX-certified AODD pumps are engineered to prevent spark generation and to maintain surface temperatures below ignition thresholds for flammable substances.
This makes them ideal for explosive atmospheres, where equipment safety is not optional; it’s required. In many regions, ATEX compliance is mandated by law, with noncompliance risking both worker safety and serious legal consequences.
Even outside the EU, ATEX standards are recognized globally as a benchmark for hazardous environment safety. Many companies adopt ATEX-compliant AODD pumps to maintain consistent safety practices across all their facilities.
Groundable, ATEX-Compliant Wilden AODD Pumps
Wilden offers a broad selection of fully conductive, groundable AODD pumps compliant with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, ensuring safe operation in potentially explosive zones.
Our Pro-Flo SHIFT® Series pumps are available in groundable aluminum, ductile iron, stainless steel and alloy C – ideal for oil and gas, adhesives and sealants, and paint and coatings applications.
For more aggressive chemical processes, Wilden offers ATEX-compliant conductive polypropylene and conductive PVDF in bolted construction, providing exceptional product containment and durability in hazardous environments.
