• What regular maintenance is required for a centrifugal pump?

  To properly maintain a centrifugal pump, you will need to perform regular scheduled oil changes, check impeller clearance to ensure proper flow rates can be achieved, check bearings for excess radial and axial movement, check alignment and visually check seals for any signs of leakage.

• What are the different types of centrifugal pumps?

  There are many different categories of centrifugal pumps, including ANSI horizontal and vertical in-line pumps, multi-stage vertical turbine and submersible pumps, self-priming pumps, mag drive pumps and multi-stage regenerative turbine pumps, to name a few.

• Can centrifugal pumps run dry without damage?

  While centrifugal pumps are not designed for continuous dry running, they can handle brief instances with the right seal. With a special mechanical seal, short periods of dry running are possible, such as when unloading tankers. However, extended periods of dry running can cause rapidly rising temperatures and possible catastrophic failure.
